Charleston County Medical Transportation (CCMT) provides both local and long-distance non-emergency transportation throughout Charleston and the surrounding counties. Committed to delivering safe, reliable, and compassionate service, CCMT specializes in assisting individuals with mobility challenges across the Lowcountry region.

With roots extending nearly two decades through its sister company, Charleston Green Taxi, CCMT was founded by Alexander Franklin, a long-time Charleston entrepreneur and respected business leader. Established more than 18 years ago, Charleston Green Taxi quickly became one of the region’s most trusted and recognized transportation providers. Serving both residents and tourists throughout the Charleston area, Green Taxi built its reputation by emphasizing safety, courtesy, timeliness, and reliability - operating around the clock to meet community needs.

Over time, as Charleston Green Taxi grew, its operations brought Alexander and Justin VanBogart, Green Taxi’s Director of Operations, into daily contact with area hospitals, rehabilitation centers, and senior care facilities. Through those partnerships and service requests, the two noticed the unmistakable and increasing pattern of trip inquiries coming from hospitals, emergency rooms, and nursing facilities seeking wheelchair-accessible and assisted transportation. With many of these facilities struggling to find reliable, timely service to safely accommodate patients with limited mobility, post-surgical needs, or chronic conditions requiring extra care during transport, the gap in service was obvious. With Green Taxi’s extensive experience in logistics, scheduling, and customer care, Alexander and Justin were confident in their ability to provide a solution to this need.

That realization became the foundation for Charleston County Medical Transportation, a company created to bridge this vital service gap. Drawing on Green Taxi’s operational infrastructure, safety culture, and customer-service philosophy, CCMT was designed to extend those same high standards into the non-emergency medical transportation (NEMT).

The transition into NEMT was a natural evolution for Green Taxi’s mission: To provide your residents with safe, cost-effective, and reliable transportation solutions that meet individual needs while respecting facility policies and priorities. In Charleston County and the surrounding Lowcountry, adults aged 65 and older now comprise nearly 18% of the population, and that number continues to rise each year. By 2030, seniors are projected to outnumber children under 18, with one in four residents belonging to the senior community.

Recognizing that accessible transportation is key to senior independence and quality of life, CCMT partners with healthcare providers, rehabilitation centers, and community organizations to bridge that gap. Their services ensure that seniors can reach medical appointments, grocery stores, therapy sessions, and other essential destinations with dignity, comfort, and confidence.

Unlike standard curb-to-curb providers, CCMT offers true door-through-door assistance. Professionally trained staff members safely escort clients from their residence or facility into clean, ADA-compliant vehicles and accompany them all the way to check-in upon arrival. Every trip is designed to provide a seamless, supportive, and reassuring experience from start to finish.
